FlexLink Systems delivered a conveyor system
for a new packaging line for Turbuhaler in AstraZeneca Production
Liquid Products, at Södertälje, Sweden. “FlexLink conveyors
and components have been used by AstraZeneca for more than fifteen
years in their production processes.”, says Tommy Gustavsson,
Projects, FlexLink Systems. “Deliveries have mostly been through machine
builders and other OEM companies using FlexLink as part of their
installations. “1999 was the first time we were contacted directly
by AstraZeneca, and the first time we became the supplier of a
turnkey conveyor system.” “We received from AstraZeneca a User
Requirement Specification (USR), with defined design, functions,
working environment, and even the project time plan.” User requirement
specification
There were also some special goals for this automation project. The
ambitions were to minimize human mistakes when handling the line,
ensure personal, product and environmental safety, maximize
productivity, use standard components as much as possible, and
simplify expansion and validation. New way of working
“This was a new way for us to work”, says Tommy Gustavsson. I must
say it is a very good concept that suited us well! It especially
enabled the communication with AstraZeneca to run smoothly which is
very important when you are working with a tight time
schedule.” The FlexLink
solution
The line starts with filled and capped inhalers being placed onto
two separate FlexLink conveyors size XS. Then the two lines merge
for the packaging processes. During the processes the line is led
through the wall to the packaging. Here the conveyor chain is
provided with a cover.
“We have a good solution where the lines are provided with five
cleated portal conveyors to give free and easy access.” says Tommy
Gustavsson. FlexLink XS and XL conveyors are used in the
line.
