Ingram Micro Frameworks in Rosmalen, The Netherlands, with a
capacity to assemble thousands of computers per day, works
according to the "Built to Customer Order" principle. For the
completion of this project, Ingram asked FlexLink to realise a
modular visual inspection and topcover assembly (VI/TCA) line for
computers, and optimize the manipulator performance, including a
control concept that integrates and guarantees optimal
flexibility. Ingram’s key demands were:
• Implement flexibility in VI/TCA assembly area
• Increase of production flow
• Improve the manipulator control profiles and cycle times in the
duration test and the production buffer area Significant cycle time reduction
The new Dynamic Assembly System (DAS) control system of
FlexLink Automation has solved the existing bottlenecks, by using
specialized software and a modular control system. Proof is given
by Mr. Emiel Smits, Senior Production Manager, Ingram Micro
Frameworks, Rosmalen: "In the VI/TCA duration test and production
buffer area, cycle through put time has improved significantly!
Building to Customer Order in our layout model means an increase of
assembly time per PC, without making concessions to the short
delivery times. Expanding assembly capacity was a logical
consequence: more working stations, buffer capacity, individual
control and optimization of product flow." "FlexLink has integrated
all aspects in one system!" FlexLink simply offers the best solution!
The choice of FlexLink is motivated by Mr. Smits. "This modular
link and highly flexible modular concept was simply the best
solution. Besides, FlexLink maintains without doubt the best
price/performance ratio. We are operating in a fast moving market,
but one thing is clear; FlexLink will definitely be involved in the
future developments of Ingram Micro Frameworks."
