Nokia, the leading manufacturer of mobile phones, chose Hungary
in 1998 for its 25 billion forint (100 million euros) investment.
The main reason for choosing this place was the favourable
geographical location, the existing infrastructure, and the skilled
and well educated labour force. The speed of the construction work
of the factory has hit a record. The production started up at the
beginning of year 2000. The factory of the future
The factory is called "The factory of the future", not only because
of its modern equipment, but also because of the new, innovative
manufacturing processes, which allow more flexible and faster
production. This is a key to fulfil the customers' needs. The
plant includes both the SMT production as well as final assembly,
testing, programming and packaging. A conveyor system partnership
Nokia has chosen FlexLink for supplying the lines for the back-end
assembly phase. After some discussions, FlexLink proposed a
two-storey conveyor system. The phones are transported in paper
trays, which require special attention during handling. That is why
we use special stoppers at the workstations, and tailor made slides
at the beginning and at the end of the lines. Building
the lines was a result of cooperation between Nokia, FlexLink
Nordic and Hungarian system builders. Trouble free operation since the start
Since starting up the lines, they have been working trouble free.
At the end of 2001, Nokia decided to use different paper trays.
The new paper trays introduced several changes in the
conveyor system. The lines had to be made wider, as well as longer
to meet the requirements of our customer. Angle plates were added
to both sides of the conveyors, and a wider guide rail system was
mounted. The modifications carried out by FL
