One of SCA’s plants is situated at Lilla Edet in the West of
Sweden. Here, paper has been produced since the end of the 19th
century and tissues since the '40s. FlexLink has been a supplier of
conveyors to SCA since the beginning of the 80s. Gert Carlson,
Production Process Technician, remembers the first installation:
“It was already in 1983, we were rebuilding the plant and FlexLink
conveyors were installed for handling toilet paper
tissue.” After that, FlexLink has made many installations
through the years. Complete handling system
In 1996, SCA upgraded Line 12 and asked FlexLink to suggest a
conveyor system for handling the rolls to the Optima baggers and
handling the packs from the Optimas to the display palletizers.
Since space was limited, a solution also had to be made for
handling the cores from the corewinder to the rewinder. The
rewinder was equipped with two 4-lane logsaws each feeding one
bagger. This solution enabled a very flexible production, without
limiting the output from the rewinder. When running 4-packs only two lanes per saw are used, for
6-packs three and for 8-pack all four lanes are in operation. The
rolls are run on four-lane XL (65 mm) conveyors. After the baggers
the packs are conveyed either to two Hayssen Titepak or to the
display palletizers. The destination is selected by setting a
vertical pivot conveyor to the desired out feed conveyor. When
running to the display palletizers, the packs are handled on a
two-lane XL conveyor, laying down with the cores across the
conveyors. Automatic closing device The production from the two baggers are merged using a
mechanical device, "traffic police", that without any controls or
pneumatics, automatically closes one lane when products are coming
from the other. There are two palletizers normally dedicated to one
converting line each, but when only one converting line is running
display pallets it can use both palletizers. |
