Sancella is Austra!ia's largest female hygiene manufacturer. For
the new packaging line the company has chosen FlexLink’s vertical
wide chain conveyor system XB that was installed as a turnkey
system in just a couple of weeks. “We required a system to take the
product from our current four production lines and our future fifth
line and put the products in a central location for packing”, says
lan Duguid, Application Engineer for Sancella. “The conveyor had to be able to handle various product lines,
with different dimensions, in one system, from 100 mm high to 500
mm high”, says lan Duguid. “There is also the confined space in
which to install the system. We had to be able to elevate our
products and get them out of the way in a very limited area”. FlexLink Systems was ideally positioned to provide
turnkey solution
FlexLink was able to provide a tailor made solution to match
Sancella's requirements with FlexLink's 175 mm wide roller cleat
chain. FlexLink supplied a turnkey solution that raised the various
sized products to a height of over three metres, allowing free and
easy access underneath the conveyors, which have a total length of
approximately 90 metres. Both top and side guide rails were
employed to make sure the various sized products remained stable on
the conveyor. Maximized operator access
Sancella wanted to maximize operator access underneath the
conveyors. This meant that the supports needed to be spaced as far
as possible. To accommodate their request FlexLink employed two
suspension bridges as part of their system. This substantially
increased the free area underneath the conveyors by allowing them
to spread out their support structures. Carton accumulation system via touch
panel
A controlled carton accumulation system was designed to transfer
the product off the conveyor to the palletising area. The design
needed to be flexible enough to handle various sized products on
the same line. FlexLink also provided all the control logic
software for the system that could be accessed by operators through
a simple touch panel. Installation two weeks after order
There were a number of reasons why Sancella chose FlexLink to
supply the system. lan Duguid explains: “FIexLink has a good track
record and history with our company, that made us feel comfortable
in dealing with them. The lack of noise their system generates was
a critical factor. FlexLink conveyors were by far the quietest
systems submitted to us. Finally, there was the lead time, we
placed the order mid December 1998 and installation commenced in
the beginning of January 1999. The other suppliers couldn't do
that.” “All the staff were easy to contact, everyone was always
available. Due to the time constraints of the project this was a
really comforting factor for us”, adds lan Duguid.
